Easier and happier

June 14, 2009

Sat 6th June – 3.35 miles with Susan

Sun 7th June – Stirling triathon (750m swim, 20km bike, 5km run)

Mon 8th June – 3.79 miles with Susan

Wed 10th June – 3.5miles speed session with Susan

Fri 12th June – 2 miles with Susan

Sat 13th June – 1.5 hrs cycling

Sun 14th June – 1.5 hrs mountain biking and 1 hr badminton

Although less mileage I have out running more times in the last couple of weeks in ages and have enjoyed just going out with my sister-in-law and there is no pressure on me, well apart from me being responsible for getting her under 1 hr in the 10km in 3 months.  The speed session we did was 3 x 30secs, then 2 x 45secs, then 2 x 30 secs and going to build this up gradually from here.  It was her first ever attempt at something like that and I think she enjoyed it.   We were in Bellahouston park and it was full of runners, including the fast boys from Bella road runners and that certainly helped her keep going.  Her splits for the 30 secs were all 6.something m/m pace with the fastest being 6.15m/m and her 45secs were 7.something.  Despite the short splits I thought that was really good for a first time!

I tried to enjoy the triathlon and I kind of did but I was also totally gubbed from the marathon and from 10 lengths into the swim I felt tired.  It was a bit of a struggle throughout.  I would like to keep them up though.  I was faster in the swim that ever before – 20.44 mins, about an hour for the bike ride again and 30mins for the 5km which although slow was about six mins faster for the run than January.

I have been in Aberdeen for the weekend and enjoyed cycling with boys.  Took them to some specific mountain bike trails for the first time, they were of course fearless while I was a scaredy cat and was probably the one most likely to go over the handle bars as I was braking so much all the time. In fact it took me a few attempts before I actually cycled the whole way down. Thankfully it was quiet!  I had not played badminton since my mid-teens and that was good fun, would like to do it a bit more but of course it is fitting everything in!

I am only support and I am really excited about next weekend now, so I can’t imagine how those running must feel. I need pacepusher to do his predicted splits, so that of course he can go faster in the first half and slower in the last part, rendering them nearly useless!!!!  Only kidding!  Can’t complain; he has hoovered, cleaned the kitchen including hob, oven and grill, cleaned the bathroom, done the washing and hung it up and cleaned out his clothes cupboards while I have been away.  Well he tells me he has, I will see tomorrow!

  2. Hello Caroline,
sounds like you are recovering well from all your recent races!
Things are not looking too good at our end and I nearly threw in the (support) towel yesterday…
Thomas has now also picked up a calf strain just from getting up from a chair! We both have some hope left that he will be able to start though he has not run for 2 weeks and at the moment can’t even walk properly :-(
So see you hopefully in Milngavie.

  3. Caroline, thanks for the comment on my blog. I know you have been frustrated a lot recently with your running. I know now exactly how it feels now. I hav never been more frustrated than now.
But I am glad you are “easier and happier” now. And even if I have not the most positive mindset about the WHW Race just now I have no doubt that if it does not work out for me this time. I will be back and I look forward to it!
