Sustrans race, Bridge of Weir, 7.40pm, 5.02 miles, 36.50, 7.20m/m pace
7.27m/m, 7.28m/m, 7.19m/m, 7.13m/m, 7.11m/m,
I really had to force myself out of the door for this and only 15 mins after I got in the house! This was mostly because I have only done one handicap race a the club before, that was a year and a half ago and I came second last! I was given a rubbish handicap being new to the club which was fair enough but put me off for quite a while!
I was not really thinking about the race element of the race at all, I just wanted to have the chance to see what I could do over 5 miles so that I would have more of an idea what my potential 10km time might be. I was hoping I could run at about 7.15m/m pace and although it was 7.20m/m ave pace I managed I am more than pleased with that as I was working really hard the whole time and it far faster than anything I have done before. If I could keep up that pace for a 10km it would give me a finishing time of 45.24 so now I have a goal!
Unfortunately I will not now get the chance to try a 10km until August when I get back from Malawi. I am now hoping more than ever that I will get the chance to run enough while in Malawi although I really have no idea what will happen.
In terms of the race tonight I started 8th and finished 3rd so I was really happy with that and know I worked as hard as I could. Thanks to Sandra and Lucy for the shouts of encouragement near the end!
